Kate Middleton's Royal Fill-In Loves The Spotlight, Wants It To Be 'Permanent Situation': Report
One royal is reportedly in talks to fill in for Kate Middleton amid her cancer battle.
The number of working royals is noticeably very few after King Charles and the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. One report claimed that Princess Beatrice was being tagged to do some engagements on Middleton's behalf while the latter undergoes treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.
"[Beatrice] would love for it to become a permanent situation," an unnamed source told Life & Style. "Beatrice is comfortable in the spotlight and would be overjoyed to become a working royal."
Another source previously told the outlet that it would take some time before the future queen could return to her royal duties. However, she was reportedly feeling pressured to do so.
"While no one is pushing Kate to do anything but recover, she's still feeling a lot of pressure to get back to her duties and to be even more perfect than before," the insider said. "She's taking time to heal, but caring for her kids, being a good spouse to William and her responsibility to her work are weighing heavily on Kate."
The report about Princess Beatrice possibly filling in for Middleton comes after she was spotted with her sister Princess Eugenie and cousin Zara Tindall at a Buckingham Palace garden party hosted by Prince William on Tuesday. The sighting sparked rumors that they would be taking on royal duties, but GB News' royal correspondent Cameron Walker shut down the speculations about them joining the working royals.
"We've talked a lot about this slimmed-down monarchy. So I asked the question to somebody close to William, 'Is this a situation where Prince William could call upon this younger generation of royals to carry out more public duties in the future?" Walker said.
"Because we've got a very aging working population of royals at the moment with the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra in their 80s, approaching 90. The Duke of Gloucester turns 80 this year. So are we going to see that? And I was categorically told, 'Absolutely not.' This is just Prince William inviting them to the garden party. It's something that the late Queen Elizabeth II did on a number of occasions."
Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis in March, and she has been receiving treatment for her condition since then. Earlier this week, the Kensington Palace spokesman gave an update about her potential return to her royal duties.
"The princess is not expected to return to work until it's cleared by her medical team," the spokesperson said in a statement to the BBC.
