Mike Tyson Suffers Medical Emergency On Board Flight To LA; Another Boxing Legend Predicts He'll 'Quit' Jake Paul Fight
Mike Tyson sparked a health scare months away from his anticipated fight against Jake Paul, according to a source.
The professional boxer had an apparent medical emergency while on board American Airlines flight 1815 from Miami heading to Los Angeles on Sunday. An eyewitness shared the details of the incident with In Touch.
"Mike had some kind of medical emergency on the plane and paramedics boarded," the source said. "Before the paramedics arrived, the flight issued an announcement asking for a doctor -- the message even came on everyone's screens."
According to the insider, Tyson, 57, was spotted in the Admiral Clubs wearing a matching short-sleeved blue and white print cabana set. He was taken to the gate at the original boarding time of 5:10 p.m. but was escorted away when the flight was delayed due to intense heat since the plane had to cool down. He eventually got on the plane at 6:30 p.m.
Fans immediately noticed Tyson, and a few even approached him for photos. The source said Tyson was "very accommodating."
However, 30 minutes before they were set to land, they got a pre-recorded message asking if any of the passengers were medical personnel. Medical professionals were asked to approach the flight attendants or press the call button, noting that another passenger needed assistance.
"Then our screens said medical assistance needed, and repeated the same thing," the eyewitness added.
"He was in first class, but we were [in] an exit row. They asked us to stay on the plane and landed so paramedics could enter. [The stewardess] said something like, 'He's a really important passenger, so we wanna make sure he's OK.' I knew it was him, but I just mouthed the words' Mike Tyson' and she nodded her head yes."
When the plane landed at LAX, they were delayed for another 25 minutes because passengers had to wait as the paramedics dealt with Tyson. The professional boxer's rep confirmed the incident and assured that he was fine.
"Thankfully, Mr. Tyson is doing great. He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare up 30 minutes before landing," Tyson's rep told In Touch. "He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him."
The health scare happened less than two months before his scheduled fight against Paul, 27. Tyson is due to return to the boxing ring at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20.
However, Evander Holyfield, another boxing legend who previously fought Tyson twice, was seemingly doubtful that the fight would be actualized. The 61-year-old former professional boxer said Tyson might "quit."
"But you never know, Mike might just quit in the ring and sit down and say, 'I'm done,'" Tyson's former rival said, per Sport Bible.
When asked for his forecast should the fight happen, Holyfield said it depends on Jake.
"I don't know, it all depends on how Jake fights. The point of the matter is whether Jake Paul takes a good shot," Holyfield said. "I have never seen him get hit by anybody."
The two former heavyweight boxers -- Tyson and Holyfield -- first clashed in the ring in 1996. Holyfield beat Tyson for the 1996 WBA title, leading to their infamous 1997 rematch when Tyson, on the verge of losing after Holyfield dominated the fight, bit Holyfield's ears, per Men's Health. Holyfield won the rematch.
