‘General Hospital’ Star Elizabeth McRae Dead At 88
Best known for her roles in the hit soap-opera series 'General Hospital' and 'Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.,' actress Elizabeth McRae died on May 28.
She was 88.
The beloved actress reportedly died peacefully at Highland Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Monday night, according to City View local news outlet.
The late star started as a southern woman with charm who aspired an acting career, prompting her to leave her hometown to travel to both New York City and Hollywood. She also partook in cult-favorite programs including 'I Dream of Jeannie,' 'The Andy Griffith Show,' 'Bonanza' and more.
According to her nephew Jim McRae, the actress — known as Elizabeth "Besty" McRae — had a wonderful life. "She was bright and articulate. She was still getting fan mail at Highland House," he stated, per the news outlet.
On April 21, 2023, Mayon Weeks of Fayetteville Performing Arts inducted adored actress into the Hall of Fame at the Crown Theatre, gushing that she "lit up a room" when she was present.
The late star is described as "a warm delightful person to be with, and an engaging performer in film and on stage. A treasured daughter of our Fayetteville community."
The blue-eyed starlet played roles in 'General Hospital' from 1969 to 1970, and 1972 to 1973. She also played in the hit series 'Days of Our Lives' (1977) in addition to other popular shows. McRae took her final curtain call last April as the 33rd inductee into the Fayetteville Performing Arts Hall of Fame.
Her hometown remains proud of all that she set out to do, stating that "Elizabeth McRae Halsey belonged to us and was proud for all of us to know that she called Fayetteville home."
