Kerry Washington is officially joining the cast of the next 'Knives Out' film.

The 'Knives Out' franchise is expanding with the new Netflix film 'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.' It will be the next star-studded addition to the universe with another Hollywood starlet.

Washington, 47, took to her Instagram Story to share the news. "So excited to be a part of the 'Knives Out' family!" she wrote. The text was accompanied by a "Deadline" article that initially made the announcement.

The cast of 'Knives Out 3' is already packed with big Hollywood names including Daniel Craig, Andrew Scott, Josh O'Connor, and Cailee Spaeny.

Kerry Washington is best known for a variety of strrong roles. She starred as Olivia Pope in the hit series 'Scandal.' In the Hulu series 'Little Fires Everywhere,' the Bronx native played Mia Warren alongside Reese Witherspoon. More recently, the mom of two starred in the series 'Unprisioned,' which recently concluded it's third season.

When playing the character Olivia Pope on ABC for seven seasons, she frequently spoke to the real life DC crisis manager Judy Smith on whom the character was based. She also spent a lot of time reading up on Supreme Court facts and histories.

In an interview with "Harpers Baazar" in 2023, she shared how "Anthropological work is required for me to build a character that's as real as possible. The research is much more solid and tangible when playing real people. There is a practice in acting of stepping into someone else's shoes, someone else's story, someone else's life that necessitates a certain amount of compassion and empathy."

Last year, Washington released her memior "Thicker Than Water." This memior was an honest and tell-all retrospective of the star's life. Only a few years prior to releasing the memior is when she discovered that the man who raised her was not her biological father. Confronted with this news, she decided to re-examine her personal relationship with privacy.

"For a long time, it felt very right for me to maintain more privacy, particularly after my loss of anonymity. But then when my parents shared this information with me, to not be more transparent about the shifting nature in our family dynamic felt like I was perpetuating a false narrative that they had given me," she explained. "I was ready to share more of myself as I was on this journey of self-discovery."

'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' is set to be released in 2025.
