Princess Diana's 'Golden Parenting Rule' Helps Keep Prince George, Princess Charlotte, And Prince Louis Grounded
Kate Middleton follows numerous guidelines for parenting her three children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. One of the key principles she adheres to is derived from the children's late grandmother, Princess Diana, according to reports.
Even though Princess Diana never had the opportunity to meet her son Prince William's three children, her impact on their upbringing remains significant.
The late Princess Diana, who passed away in 1997 and is interred at her childhood estate, practiced a very involved parenting style with Prince William and Prince Harry. Her relatable and hands-on approach has inspired William and Kate Middleton to similarly prioritize their children's needs above everything else, including their royal responsibilities.
One of the parenting principles Kate has embraced in honor of her mother-in-law is a rule so essential to Diana that it became known as her 'golden rule.'
Diana's 'golden rule,' as reported by The Sun, was to "keep her children's feet on the ground." This involved exposing William and Harry to the lives of less fortunate individuals, frequently bringing them along to her charitable activities so they could witness others' struggles firsthand.
Royal author Andrew Morton, who worked with Diana on her biography, explained her desire to show her sons the real world. He told The Mirror, "She took the young royals with her on her private charity visits from a young age. One of the reasons was she didn't want the boys to grow up thinking the whole world was 4x4 Range Rovers, shotguns, and nannies."
Following Diana's example, Kate did something similar with her children during Christmas 2023. She took George, Charlotte, and Louis to volunteer at Maidenhead baby bank, where they helped pack toys to be given as Christmas gifts. Louis even gave away a cherished toy at the event, which would have undoubtedly made his late grandmother proud.
