Marlon Wayans Calls Out Katt Williams For Blasting Comedians On Club Shay Shay: 'I'm Not Going To Sit There And Talk Bad'
Marlon Wayans does not think that others in the profession should be using platforms to drag each other down.
In January, stand-up comedian Katt Williams appeared on 'Club Shay Shay,' a podcast hosted by NFL alum Shannon Sharpe. Throughout the course of the interview, Williams took several jabs at other professionals in the field.
Williams named Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Rickey Smiley, Kevin Hart, and Michael Blackson. His comments included direct insults to the character and talent of the men listed. In regards to Blackson, Williams remarked, "Most comedians don't get booed enough. I mean, this is how you end up with a Micahel Blackson, who's a real African doing a fake African accent."
Wayans told PEOPLE why he disagreed with the way the Ohio native went about things.
"I think for comedy and Black comedy it's important for people to see love, respect, and laughter. Not everybody has that experience, but that's the experience that I come from. I'm not going to sit there and talk bad," Wayans shared with the outlet. "Even if I have a problem with somebody, I'll probably call them up and have a sit down. And if there is a beef with Dave [Chappelle] or Kat or somebody, I'll be the first to get on the phone with Dave and call Kat's people, me and Rick Grant like, 'Yo, let's set a meeting.' "
The 'Little Man' actor, whose newest comedy special 'Good Grief' was released today on Prime Video, solemnly believes that the responsibility of those in the limelight is to set a good example.
"To see our heroes fight, I don't think that's why we're here," he said. "We are here to be examples, not just in the industry, but with our behavior. We're here to be examples for those coming up behind us."
Wayans is not the first comedian to stand-up against Williams' remarks.
Dave Chappelle, despite being spoken highly of during Williams' 'Club Shay Shay' interview, also publicly took issue with the remarks.
According to TMZ, Chappelle took to the Hollywood Improv stage back in January to question Williams' actions.
"Katt is one of the best painters in the game," he said, according to the outlet. "So why are you drawing ugly pictures of us? Stop. Hurt people hurt people, but I am a hurt person that never hurt people, and he does it all the time."
Marlon Wayans 'Good Grief' can be streamed on Prime Video now.
