Christina Applegate Says She Doesn't 'Enjoy Living' Due To Her Depression: 'I Don't Enjoy Things Anymore'
Christina Applegate got candid about her struggles with depression.
The actress, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2021, collaborated with Jamie-Lynn Sigler to create the podcast 'MeSsy.' On this platform, the two openly discuss living with MS and the struggles that come with it.
On the most recent episode of the podcast, the 'Dead to Me' star opened up about the depth and ever-presence of her depression. "A real, ****-it-all depression — like, a real depression, where it's kind of scaring me too a little bit because it feels really fatalistic, it feels really 'end of.' I don't mean that, but I'm trapped in this darkness right now that I haven't felt in probably 20-something years. I don't enjoy living. I don't enjoy it. I don't enjoy things anymore."
This isn't the first time that Applegate, 52, has discussed her depression publically. On Dax Shepard's podcast 'Armchair Expert,' she explained that her depression is hard to escape because she knows that her condition is only going to worsen.
Though her depression is severe, the 'Married with Children' star has looked for help. Although she shared that it "was a big thing for me to do," Applegate made an appointment with her therapist. The scheduling of the appointment marked a major transition in the performer's outlook.
When her podcast first began, she stated she had no intentions of going to see a therapist because she was "afraid to start crying."
The podcast's goal is to offer support for those struggling with MS with a place to listen and feel seen by others struggling with the same disease.
"Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler are getting vulnerable about the curveballs that life can throw...theirs just happens to be MS," the podcast description read. "Join them each week as they self-reflect, learn, laugh, and grow through their own raw and often-times hilarious conversations with each other, friends, co-stars, and the people that keep them going through the messiness of life."
