White Dad Shoves Black Superintendent From Shaking Graduating Daughter's Hand: ‘Don’t Want Her Touching Him’
A Wisconsin dad is in the hot seat after he's caught on camera shoving the superintendent at his daughter's graduation for the standard procedure of shaking her hand during commencement.
The white father was accused of racist behavior and could allegedly be heard saying, "That's my daughter," to the Baraboo School District Superintendent Rainey Briggs, who is Black.
"I don't want her touching him," the father stated during the late May ceremony, per 'The New York Post.'
It remains unknown as to what exactly brought the high school father to so abruptly push Briggs, who allegedly was heard saying, "Get your hands off of me." Fellow school staff standing in close proximity appeared perplexed by his aggression, as did his own daughter.
The 'Milwaukee Journal Sentinel' reported that a citation shows the father was charged with disorderly conduct. He is required to make an appearance in the Sauk County Circuit Court, scheduled in August.
Per the news outlet, a judge ruled that the ill-tempered father will have no contact with Superintendent Briggs following a temporary restraining order. That hearing is scheduled for June 14.
State Rep. Francesca Hong spoke out about the viral footage. "Dr. Briggs is an excellent superintendent who cares deeply about the well-being of all students in the Baraboo District," she penned in a repost on Twitter, now known as X.
"No one should have to endure this type of gross & racist conduct," she added.
Hong explained that the incident speaks to how "prevalent and problematic" racism is in the state of Wisconsin, per the 'Milwaukee Journal.'
