'Raising Kanan' Star Malcolm Mays Involved In Police Altercation Outside 'Power' Premiere Party — WATCH
Footage of Malcolm Mays went viral following an incident at the 'Power' premiere party in New York City on Thursday. He was seen being escorted out by police.
A video, posted by 9MagTV, depicted what looks like Mays engaging in a minor confrontation with two Caucasian police officers, gesturing with his hands to signal his lack of aggression to bystanders.
Amid the commotion, the actor can be heard saying, "I'm trying to tell you," as the officers escorted him away and secured the steel barricades behind him.
A woman dressed in red is observed attempting to comfort the 34-year-old performer, seemingly urging him to rejoin the party.
Mays then stepped towards the officers calling them the curse word for "female dogs" before redirecting his attention to a Black man clad in a black suit positioned behind the law enforcement personnel. On the video he's heard warning him how they "can't protect you."
The actor then seems to step away momentarily from the scene, only to return to the barricade to confront authorities. He queries whether the police are aware of the identity of the Black man in the suit before questioning if they recognize him. Upon receiving a negative response from the officers, the 'Snowfall' star retorts, "And that's the problem. You just listen to whoever is talking to you, but when I talk, you don't want to listen, right?" He alluded because the other man had "a suit on," they would listen to him instead without getting his side of the story also.
While the video footage does not disclose the root of the verbal exchange, Mays seemingly perceived the police's actions towards him as unjust.
Meanwhile, fans eagerly anticipate the continuation of the 'Power' franchise.
The fourth and final season of 'Power Book II: Ghost series' is set to premiere in two parts on June 7 and Sept. 6 on Starz.
