Over 60 Pounds Of Cocaine, Valued At $1M, Found In Fake Nike Labels By Divers Who Thought It Was Trash
A group of divers have certainly come across a specific kind of buried treasure.
Scuba divers in Florida discovered a mysterious package while enjoying a recent dive. On June 5th, the divers found a black garbage bag floating deep under the water. Originally, they assumed that the bag was filled with garbage.
According to 'Hollywood Unlocked,' the bag was filled with $1 million dollars worth of cocaine. The cocaine was divided into 25 individual bricks. Each brick of cocaine was marked with a fake Nike SB logo.
This bag of cocaine was found 100 feet underwater in the Atlantic Ocean in Key Largo, Florida. The dive took place at Rainbow Reef Dive Center before authorities were called to the scene around 12:25pm on the day of the find. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office were the first responders on the scene.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office took to Facebook to inform the public of the discovery's details.
"Twenty-five individually wrapped kilograms of suspected cocaine was found by scuba divers Wednesday in approximately 100 feet of water in the Atlantic Ocean," they said in a statement. "The Sheriff's responded to the Rainbow Reef Dive Center in Key Largo at approximately 12:25 p.m. where divers stated they were removing what they thought was trash when the discovery was made. The Sheriff's Office turned over the suspected narcotics to the U.S. Border Patrol."
This was not the only comment made to the public in regards to the find.
Samuel Briggs II, the U.S. Border Patrol Miami Sector Acting Chief, took to Twitter, now known as X: "Cocaine Caught at Sea: Good Samaritan in the Florida Keys discovered a suspicious package floating at sea & notified authorities."
Briggs II continued: "U.S. Border Patrol agents seized the package, which contained 66 lbs. of cocaine, valued at over $1 million."
The origin of the marked packages of cocaine remains unknown.
Drug traffickers sometimes use international waters to transport drugs using a variety of vessels, according to 'CBS News,' and sometimes the packages are marked with designs.
Nearly one month ago, $1 million dollars worth of cocaine was found by a beachgoer along the Florida Keys, 'CBS Miami' reported. That discovery contained 65 lbs. of cocaine, according to U.S. Border Patrol agents.
