Princess Diana's Brother Charles Spencer Hires King Charles' Divorce Lawyer For 3rd Split: Report
Charles Spencer has reportedly hired the same divorce lawyer who handled the split between King Charles and the late Princess Diana in 1996.
Charles chose Fiona Shackleton to represent him in his recently announced divorce from his current wife Karen Spencer.
The 9th Earl Spencer, and younger brother of the late Princess Diana, is divorcing his wife after nearly 13 years of marriage, which he announced to 'The Daily Mail' on June 8.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were married 11 years prior to their split in 1992. Their split took place just one year before Diana's tragic car accident in Paris, which took place in the early morning hours of August 31, 1997.
Leading lawyer Shackleton — known for servicing British royals and celebs alike — also represented Prince Andrew in his divorce from Sarah Ferguson in 1996.
In addition to servicing the royals, Shackleton has handled high profile cases including Paul McCartney's divorce from Heather Mills in 2008 and Princess Haya bint al-Hussein of Jordan's split from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum of Dubai.
According to 'The Mail,' Earl's relationship with the Countess of Spencer broke down allegedly due to the strain of his shocking memoir, "A Very Private School." The memoir detailed the physical and sexual abuse he endured while attending boarding school.
"It is immensely sad," Spencer, 60, told the media outlet. "I just want to devote myself to all my children and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future."
Royal couple Charles and Karen, 52, married in June 2011 and share a daughter, Charlotte Diana, 12, whose middle name honors that of her late aunt.
The 9th Earl Spencer has four children with his first wife, Victoria Lockwood, and two children with his second wife, Caroline Freud, 57.
