U.S. President Joe Biden stands by his son, Hunter Biden, following the guilty verdict in his federal gun case.

On Tuesday, Hunter was convicted on three felony gun charges in federal court in Delaware. The jury determined that the first son illegally purchased and possessed a gun while addicted to crack cocaine and violated federal law prohibiting illegal drug users from owning firearms. Despite the ruling, Biden continues to show his support for his son in a statement he released following the verdict.

"As I said last week, I am the president, but I am also a dad," Biden said, per Entertainment Tonight. "Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery."

The POTUS also reminded the public that he would "accept the outcome" of his son's legal battle. However, he announced that Hunter was considering to appeal the case.

"As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal. Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that," he added.

Biden has generally refused to comment on his son's case. However, the head of the state previously said that he would not pardon his son if he got convicted of the felony charges, CBS News reported.

The president didn't attend the trial, but his wife, Jill, attended for several days before they traveled to France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy on Thursday. Hunter's half-sister, Ashley Biden, also attended the trial to show her support for him.

Hunter also issued a statement following the guilty verdict. The presidential son said he was "more grateful" than disappointed due to the support he received.

"I am more grateful today for the love and support I experienced this last week from Melissa, my family, my friends, and my community than I am disappointed by the outcome," Hunter said, per ET. "Recovery is possible by the grace of God, and I am blessed to experience that gift one day at a time."
