Bill Murray To Lead Free Performance In Times Square On Wednesday
Bill Murray performed a free theater piece in Times Square on Wednesday.
The revival of Henrik Ibsen's classic work, 'An Enemy of the People,' has been running on Broadway since March 18th at the classic Circle in the Square Theatre. The play, originally written in 1882, has a long history of igniting political controversy and inspiring audiences to re-examine the legislative powers within their own societies. Its themes of public health, environmentalism, and the corruption of political institutions remain highly relevant, drawing parallels to contemporary issues and debates.

According to 'Time Out New York,' performances in March were interrupted by protesters from the group Extinction Rebellion. Extinction Rebellion is a well-known climate activist group that uses non-violent civil disobedience to compel government action on climate change.
In response to the interrupted performances, one of the actors in the show called out to the protesters, "You should write your own play!" Taking this piece of theatrical advice to heart, Extinction Rebellion has collaborated with another group, Theater of War Productions. Theater of War Productions is a performance group that uses classical texts to comment on contemporary political issues.
Together, these groups have organized their own free performance of 'An Enemy of the People' in Times Square. The performance will take place at 6pm today on the Red Stairs at Father Duffy Square and will also be streamed on Zoom, making it accessible to a broader audience. This event promises to be a unique blend of classical theater and modern activism, highlighting the enduring relevance of Ibsen's work.

This performance in Times Square represents a powerful intersection of art and activism, demonstrating the potential of theater to influence and inspire public discourse.
