Miley Cyrus Reveals The Status Of Her Relationships With Her Parents And Whether She's Estranged From Billy Ray Cyrus
Miley Cyrus is publically showing respect for her parents.
In a heartfelt interview on the most recent episode of David Letterman's 'My Next Guest Needs No Introduction,' according to 'PEOPLE,' Cyrus opened up about the profound impact her parents have had on her life and career. The conversation delved into the nuances of her relationship with her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, and the distinctive roles they played in shaping who she is today.
The singer called her mother, Tish Cyrus, 57, her "hero."
However, her relationship with her father has been far more complex. During the interview, she continued to speak about him in the highest light.
Miley expressed deep gratitude towards Billy Ray Cyrus, for the invaluable guidance he provided throughout her journey in the music industry. "I'm grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me. He's almost given me this map," she confessed. "And there's a map of what to do and what not to do, and he's guided me on both."
The Grammy Award winner explained that there has always been a creative bond that she's shared with her father.
"My dad as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we're very similar in our ideas," she continued. "So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I've inherited from him, more so than the way I was raised — which really, my mom raised me."
Rumors of tension surrounding the star's relationship with her father have been abundant. They increased when, during her 2024 Grammy Awards acceptance speech, she neglected to thank Billy Ray. Letterman, however, helped Miley clarify that there is, in fact, no estrangement between the two.
He inquired, "There's not estrangement here with your father, it's just the way things are played?"
