Jake Gyllenhaal felt slighted as he watched Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds promote their upcoming superhero flick "Deadpool & Wolverine."

Jackman and Reynolds have been popular for their friendly banter against each other for years. So, their fans were pleased when the "Wolverine" actor decided to reprise his superhero role and join the third "Deadpool" film. However, Gyllenhaal was allegedly not as impressed as the others as he was close to both in the past, according to a source.

"The three of them seemed to get along well. At least, at first," an unnamed insider told Life & Style. "But word is, Jake got too competitive. He and Ryan were vying for the same roles, and it became awkward."

Jackman was reportedly friends with both, but his allegiance with Reynolds prevailed. This is evident with his upcoming Marvel movie with Reynolds.

"It's hard for Jake to watch them promote the film together. He feels snubbed all over again," the source continued. "Jake may say he's better off without those guys, but it still bothers him."

Reynolds and Gyllenhaal had been acquaintances for years, but their bromance brewed up when they filmed their 2017 sci-fi horror movie "Life."

"It's not every day I get to work with people that I consider a close friend, so there's a great deal of trust there," Reynolds told Entertainment Tonight.

"I actually made a real friend for my life, you know?" Gyllenhaal added.

In the same interview, the "Ambulance" actor praised Reynolds' sense of humor.

"[Reynolds] has so many strengths as an actor that I don't have -- his sense of humor being one of them and his comic timing, which is pretty unmatched," Gyllenhaal added.

Reynolds showed the same respect to his co-star and praised Gyllenhaal's acting prowess.

"Jake is one of the greatest actors of our generation," Reynolds said.

When Reynolds didn't make it to the British TV program "The One Show" to promote the movie as he was stranded in New York due to Storm Stella, Gyllenhaal still talked fondly of his absent co-star.

"He's a wonderful man. It's rare in our industry to meet someone, a contemporary, and there's no competition. There's just some friends you meet at a certain time in your life. We met on this movie and became really close friends," Gyllenhaal said of Reynolds.

However, their bromance eventually ended. According to sources, it was Gyllenhaal who allegedly distanced himself from Reynolds.

"Ryan was something of a mentor to Jake back then," an unnamed source told Radar Online. "Friends think it was Jake who stepped away to be his own man."

"Jake and Ryan have gone their separate ways," the insider added. "It's sad because they used to be so close."
