Kevin Hart's Ex-Wife Torrei Slammed For Riding Tiffany Haddish's Coattails: Defends Actress Then Promotes Own Music
Kevin Hart's ex-wife Torrei Hart is facing backlash after using a video about his friend Tiffany Haddish's new song to plug her own music.
Haddish recently dropped her new single "Woman Up" and its music video, and both have since received mixed reviews online.
While some social media users said they are loving the Grammy winner's catchy motivational anthem, others were not impressed and likened it to Kidz Bop music.
Torrei, who divorced Hart in 2011, took to TikTok Wednesday to defend Haddish against the "hate train" toward her new track.
In her video, which she reposted on Instagram, Torrei urged critics to "mind your business" and said she was enjoying "Woman Up."
"A lot of y'all is going in on this song, 'Woman Up' by Tiffany, but let me tell you something," Torrei said. "This song is motivational, and it got me up out the bed this morning. So mind your business."
"I know it sounds like it's from the early 2000s or whatever, but so what?" she continued, adding that she believes Haddish's new track will be "a hit."
Torrei went on to say that the comedian "inspired" her to promote her music to her followers before urging fans to stream her songs "Treasure," "Lit," and "Girl You Knew."
"So, y'all go stream my music," Torrei concluded.
However, Torrei's video appeared to backfire as social media users accused her of using Haddish's fame to promote her songs while throwing shade at the actress' new single at the same time.
"She used Tiffany's hate clout to promote her own music. Purrrr," one person commented under The Shade Room's repost of Torrei's video.
Another comment read: "Came more off like a promotional train for your music!"
"She done uplift her, downplay her, and hop on her train in one sitting," a third person wrote of Torrei, while another commented, "That was the shadiest video I've seen thus far from you."
Others noted that the pushback against Haddish was not surprising considering her past controversies, including DUI arrests and allegations that she exploited two children in comedy sketches.
Earlier this week, Haddish described "Woman Up" as an "empowerment song" for women that was all about "getting yourself up off the bed, get[ting] off your feet and mov[ing]."
"I think people are really going to connect to it because it's a really relatable subject," Haddish told Entertainment Tonight. "It's woman up, it's don't feel sorry for yourself, what are you doing, you know? Get up and woman up and get on your feet. Don't lay in bed and be miserable, get up."
