Shonda Rhimes' 12-Year-Old Stopped Watching 'Grey's Anatomy' After Shocking Season 2 Episode
Shonda Rhimes recently got candid about whether her children watch her shows or not.
In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 54-year-old TV producer shared her 12-year-old child's reaction to her medical drama series, "Grey's Anatomy."
"So, my 12-year-old started watching 'Grey's Anatomy' this year, and I was coming out of my skin. She watched the first season, and then Cristina Yang had an ectopic pregnancy, and she turned it off," she revealed.
The scene that repulsed the child of the Shondaland founder was in the third episode of the series' second season, where Cristina [Sandra Oh] was shocked to discover that she was pregnant with Burke [Isaiah Washington]'s child.
In the episode, Christina passed out. It turned out her fallopian tube burst, and it led to an emergency operation that did not go smoothly.
"She's like, 'I'm really upset that Cristina's pregnant. I didn't see it coming, and I think I need to wait and watch this again when I'm older.'"
"After a bunch of months, she came back to it. She loves all the medical cases," Shonda continued.
However, she said she "can't" watch the show with her child.

"Oh, I can't. I wasn't even going to let her watch it. But she asked in front of my mom, and my mom was like, 'You absolutely can watch that show. Don't be silly, Shonda,'" she recalled.
"So, it's a very surreal experience that my baby, who wasn't even born when Grey's began, is watching. But nobody else has watched anything I created... But I get it, your mom makes the things that everybody talks about, like love and sex, and you don't want to watch that. Ew."
"I also think it's a healthy sign that they're not that interested," Rhimes added.
Shonda is mom to Harper, 22, Emerson, 12, and Beckett, 11.
While only Emerson has watched "Grey's Anatomy" so far, her eldest, Harper, has seen "How to Get Away with Murder," which she did not create but worked on as a producer.
