Tyler Perry Slammed For Repetitive 'Struggle' Narrative After ‘Divorce In The Black’ Trailer: ‘He Needs Intense Therapy’
Tyler Perry is being slammed online following the trailer release of his 25th feature film — which social media claims looks a lot like the other 24.
Fans have stood aside quietly as one of the most successful playwrights and directors in Black film and media, according to them, continues to make the same film over and over again. Some viewers are not happy about it.
Starring Meagan Good, Cory Hardrict, Richard Lawson, and Debbi Morgan, 'Divorce in the Black' tells the story of a young Black professional, Ava, who is devastated when her husband, Dallas, abandons their marriage.

Select fans have seemingly grown tired of the "Black female distress" narrative following the letdown of his February Netflix film, 'Mea Culpa,' starring Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes. The film scored 18% on 'Rotten Tomatoes' tomatometer.
"Breaking free means fighting back," Prime Video penned in their advertisement on Twitter, now known as X.
"He needs intense therapy because he keeps making the same movie," disappointed fan, tamaracharese wrote in her retweet. "Can Tyler Perry make a movie about a successful black marriage?" another disappointed fan wrote in the comments. "The exact type of family empowerment movie [the] black community needs at this point," a third user wrote, sarcastically.
Perry, 54, was born in New Orleans to a church-going mother, Willie Maxine Perry, and a father who was a carpenter, Emmitt Perry Jr. The two had a strained and abusive relationship, leading to the film mogul's teenage depression, per IMDb.
It was 1991 when he was inspired by 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' to use writing as a form of therapy. He adapted written letters into a play he called 'I Know I've Changed,' however, it wasn't enough to grab audiences.
After revamping his process, Perry's play hit the second time in 1998, drawing the attention of investors, then leading to his successful career.
'Divorce in the Black' premieres on July 11 on Prime Video.
