Jennifer Hudson Reveals She's 'The Youngest Of' 27 Kids On Her Father's Side: ‘That’s A Lot’
Jennifer Hudson recently revealed that she's yet to meet all of her siblings.
The 'Dreamgirls' star learned as a teen that her late-father — whom she grew up without — had a clan of children during her appearance on Wednesday's episode of her podcast, 'Your Mama's Kitchen.'
Hudson was raised by her mother before eventually having the chance to build a relationship with her father, Samuel Simpson, before he died in 1999.
"Apparently... he had 27 children," Hudson started. "That's a lot of children."
"I've never met all of them, but that's the thing. I'm a family person, and so when I turned 16, I'm like, 'I want to go find, Sam is what we call him, and I want to meet all my siblings.' "
The Grammy Award winning songstress went on to express her desire to bring all of her siblings together in one place at the same time. The 42-year-old claimed her paternal family members played a big part in connecting the half-siblings.
"When my grandma on his side passed, my siblings over there were like, 'Y'all got a sister that can really sing, you should meet her' and eventually we all came together," she explained. "It was my dream to have all of us at this grand Thanksgiving or Christmas table, and we all sit and eat together — that was my goal at 16."
The 'American Idol' alum detailed that her late father had about 11 girls and 17 boys. "I'm the youngest of all of them," she added.
The Chicago native is the mother of her only son, David Daniel Otunga Jr., who was born in 2009. She shares David with her ex-fiancé, David Otunga. The two came together in 2007 before their split ten years later in 2017.
Hudson told 'PEOPLE' that her current love life is going well alongside rapper Common.
"Everything is wonderful," she said about their relationship. "That's all you need to know."
