Jonathan Majors Breaks Silence On Assault Conviction After Being Cast In His First Film 'Merciless' After Guilty Verdict
Jonathan Majors has made his way back to the big screen since being convicted of assault in December 2023.
'Forbes' reported that the 34-year-old is set to be cast in an independent film directed by Martin Villeneuve, brother of 'Dune' director Denis Villeneuve. The upcoming sci-fi revenge thriller 'Merciless' is due to begin shooting in the fall.
The upcoming movie focuses on a CIA interrogator named John who journeys on a mission to save his love from a mysterious entity, which eerily sends him on an adventure to an even darker path.
Despite the major achievement, it seems a court-ordered intervention program may conflict with his film schedule, as the actor must be in attendance, per the media outlet
'Variety' reported that the 'Creed III' star was sentenced in April to one full year of domestic violence counseling after he was found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.
Images and video evidence obtained by 'TMZ' showed Jabbari's fractured finger, slightly bruised neck, and injured ear. Video evidence showed Majors, 34, using excessive force to repeatedly shove her into an Escalade truck.
In addition to returning to a major Hollywood role, he was honored with the Perseverance Award at the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards on Friday alongside honorees including Cardi B, Fat Joe, and Da Brat.
He delivered a 14-minute acceptance speech after breaking down in tears in the arms of Iyanla Vanzant live on-stage.
"We live in a world where men - Black men in particular - are propped up as either superheroes or super villains," Majors said. "But I've come to realize, me personally, I ain't none of that. It was fun, but I'm just me... I'm imperfect. I have shortcomings, I acknowledge them."
The California native recalled how his "faith has been tested and has been strengthened" over the last year and that "there will be moments in your life where things get dark — and I mean really dark — and I've seen them depths. I've seen that darkness in myself."
"I've sat in that pitch black, and what I've learned is that when you catch a glimpse of light, you run as hard and as fast as you can towards it," he continued. "And I will never take that light for granted again."
'ENSTARZ' reported that Majors has managed to maintain his joy and admits he's "in love" with Hollywood actress Meagan Good. The two started dating in May 2023, two months after he received the explosive assault charges.
An insider close to 'PEOPLE' alleged that Good, 42, showed "considerable support towards him" and "it seems their relationship has developed further from that point."
'IMDb' reported that the film 'Merciless' is currently in pre-production.
