Gossip columnist Cindy Adams recently stirred the pot with her criticism of Patti LaBelle's on-the-road cooking.

Patti LaBelle is known not only for her powerhouse voice but also her prowess in the kitchen. Cindy Adams took to the "New York Post," remembering an experience she had years ago interviewing LaBelle. LaBelle was at a hotel celebrating her 80th birthday.

Adams remembered that as she approached LaBelle's room, "Forget perfume. The entire floor reeked so strongly you could've sniffed it in Colorado."

LaBelle wasted no time talking about the cooking herself. According to Adams, the singer answered the door saying, "Her hello to me? 'Room service is dinky. Not like down-home food. I travel with one whole suitcase that's my kitchen. Pots, pans, spices, dishes, hotplate, electric fry pan, two burner stove, everything. On the road I cook myself.'"

While acknowledging the star's passion for the culinary arts, Adams recalled her distaste for the scent of the hotel. "OK - but the whole floor of this high-class hotel had the aroma of a White Tower," she wrote.

According to the "Atlanta Black Star," the criticism of LaBelle's cooking is a rare find. Her cooking has become well known in the world of entertainment from friends to colleagues alike.

Fans have taken to social media to come to Patti LaBelle's defense. One user wrote on Reddit, "I try to be respectful and impartial when it comes to different points of view. However, today I have reached my boiling point. If Cindy Adams don't sit her old self down and take back the disrespect she showed Patti Labelle.... It's her birthday. If you don't like soul food, just say so. Don't disrespect the legend that is Patti. I can't post the link, but it's in the NY Post."

I can't.... I have to rant

Another shared, "Wtf ! I'm totally Team Patti on this... even though I can't stand the smell of Liver&Onions, I would NEVER disrespect the Great Labelle or her cooking, ESPECIALLY on her birthday! Cindy Adams' old a** wouldn't be anyone or anything if she wasn't flapping her wrinkly lips about people far more talented and/or significant than she'll ever be."
