Darren McGrady, the late Queen Elizabeth's former personal chef, revealed Her Majesty's first choice of drink.

Back in 2017, when the Queen was alive and "91 years young," the royal chef revealed to CNN what she usually ate and drank, including her favorite cocktail.

"She'd be pickled if she drank that much (four drinks a day). All I said was she likes a gin and Dubonnet. That's her favorite drink," he told the outlet at the time.

"She doesn't wake up in the morning and have a large gin and tonic. Just in the evening. She certainly doesn't drink four glasses a day."

According to the Mirror, the late Queen's favorite cocktail is easy to make. One just has to pair a Dubonnet -- a rich and sweet fortified wine -- with gin and top it off with a fresh lemon slice.

In a simple recipe video by YouTubers Guillermo and Sarah, they provided measurements to make Her Majesty's favorite drink: 50 mL dry gin, 100 mL Dubonnet, 1 slice of lemon and 2 squares of ice cubes.

The Dubonnet, a blend of quinine, fortified wine, herbs and spices, was reportedly a popular drink in Europe in the late 19th century. It was made in response to a competition held by the French Government to persuade the French Foreign Legionnaires to drink quinine and combat malaria.

Showing that the Dubonnet was her favorite, the Queen awarded the brand a Royal Warrant in 2021. Since then, the bottles of the drink have proudly stated: "By Appointment to: HM Queen Elizabeth II."

In 2022, it was reported that Queen Elizabeth II's favorite Dubonnet sold out in stores across the U.K. and Australia following her death.

"In less than half [a week], we sold almost double that of Christmas, clearly showing a significant uplift from what we normally sell, and that was people clearly googling and recognizing what is the Queen's favorite drink and making it themselves," Tim Caroll, Endeavour Group's director of buying and merchandise said at the time.
