DJ Drama Thinks Sexyy Red Was ‘Robbed’ At BET Awards 2024 After Losing To Tyla
DJ Drama thinks Sexyy Red should have won Best New Artist at the BET Awards instead of Tyla.
On Tuesday, Tyree Cinque Simmons -- professionally known as DJ Drama -- was with comedian-actor Druski at the airport when someone from TMZ asked them, "Do you think Sexyy Red was robbed last night? People think she should have won Best New Artist."
"Yeah. I think she should have won," DJ Drama agreed.
The interviewer then asked him why he thinks the award was given to the "Water" songstress.
"I mean Tyla was dope, you know. Tyla is definitely dope, man. She's beautiful. They're both beautiful," he responded.
Druski shared the same sentiments, saying, "She was fine too. They both can get it..."
Both insinuated that while they think Sexyy Red should have won, there were no losers that night as both were "beautiful" and "fine."

However, this wasn't the case for some social media users. An X user with the username @yumyumducksauce boldly claimed online that the "Get It Sexyy" artist was "robbed."
"I can't believe Tyla beat Sexyy Red for best new artist. And the place was saying get it sexy. They robbed her. I don't care for her but she was definitely robbed. #BETAwards," she tweeted.
"Sexyy Red was robbed of that award! She should [have] won best new artist," claimed another user.
"I don't get how Tyla won. At all. She has one song... WTF," opined a different commenter.
"She was robbed. Even Tyla knew Sexyy should've won. She basically said it in her speech," claimed someone else in a discussion on The Neighborhood Talk.
"Honestly, Sexyy deserved it. It's rare for an artist to have the streets and the charts," said a different person.
Others came to Tyla's defense and said she deserved the award.
"She literally has a whole album. Just because she's not your style doesn't mean she's not the best. Tyla has real genuine talent," one person argued.
"Tyla deserved the award," said someone else.
Tyla bested the other nominees -- Sexyy Red, October London, BossMan Dlow, Friday, 4Batz, Ayra Starr and 41 -- in this year's BET Awards' Best New Artist category.
During her acceptance speech, she gave a shout-out to the "U My Everything" artist, saying, "Firstly, I love Sexyy Red. Oh my gosh. Icons. I love her so much."
"But, ah. This is such a gift to be here. I just wanna dedicate this one to Africa. I wanna dedicate this one to all the African superstars before me that didn't get these opportunities that I'm getting. It's just amazing and Africa to the world, guys!"
