Chet Hanks Reveals His Severe Cocaine Addiction Prompted Fellow Addicts To Advise Him To 'Chill'
Chet Hanks is opening up about his previous struggle with cocaine addiction.
Hanks, 33, acknowledged that his drug addiction had escalated to the point where seasoned users advised him to ease up, despite his persistent desire for more.
The son of acclaimed actor Tom Hanks and actress Rita Wilson reflected on his past challenges with substance abuse during an interview on Bradley Martyn's 'Raw Talk' podcast.
"The drug I had the most problem with was ... coke, dude...I'm a ... cokehead, straight-up... Not anymore, but that is my drug of choice — cocaine, bro, like Tony Montana [Al Pacino's character in 'Scarface']."
The 'Your Honor' actor discussed his past interactions with known cocaine users, admitting he actively sought them out for drugs.
"You're like, 'I know this dude's a ... cokehead, but I want a little bump.' Like, OK, fine...I would go do coke with the cokeheads, and they would be telling me, like, 'Yo, chill, bro. ... Wait a second. Give it like 15 minutes,' " he recalled. Hanks further admitted that he felt he "couldn't get enough" of the substance but now recognizes the toll it took on his heart and mental well-being.
"It's terrible," he said. "It eats away [at you]. You just, like, wither away cause you can't eat, you can't sleep."
Hanks has been candid about his past struggles with substance abuse in recent years, revealing that his battle with cocaine started when he was just 16-years-old.
"A couple months ago, I was selling coke, doing coke until I couldn't even snort it up my nose anymore because it was so clogged," he confessed in an Instagram post. "I even smoked crack."
'US Weekly' reports Hanks is set to appear in the new season of MTV's 'The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets' alongside Johnny Weird, Kim Zolciak, Jose Canseco and others. The show, which was taped last Fall, will follow a group of celebrities as they live together in a Hollywood mansion.
'The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets' premieres on Tuesday, July 23, at 9 p.m. on MTV.
