According to 'NPR,' Representative Doggett expressed his disappointment with Biden's debate performance. "I had hoped that the debate would provide some momentum to change that," Doggett, 77, said. "It did not."

Biden himself has commented on his less than stellar performance during the debate. "The fact is that you know, I wasn't very smart," ceiling poorly timed travel between different time zones as the reason he was off his game.

His comments reflect a reported growing unease within the Democratic ranks about Biden's ability to galvanize support and present a strong front against the purported Republican presidental candidate Donald Trump.

During the debates, Biden, 81, seemingly struggled to effectively counter the barrage of attacks from Trump and articulate his achievements in office.

"Instead of reassuring voters, the president failed to effectively defend his many accomplishments and expose Trump's many lies," Doggett said in a statement, according to the 'Texas Tribune.'

Per the 'Daily Mail,' Doggett was the first — but not the last — to openly express their discontent with the current president's bid to run again. Joe Manchin, a centrist politician, said candidly, "Nobody wants to be the first one to knife Julius Caesar."
