Serena Williams confirmed in an interview that she once tried cashing in her first million-dollar check in a drive-thru ATM in the early years of her career.

Earlier this month, the former professional tennis player appeared as a guest in an episode of the YouTube series "Hot Ones" by First We Feast.

During the interview where she also tried different kinds ot hot sauces, host Sean Evans asked her, "Is it true that you rarely collected your winnings your first year on tour and then once tried unsuccessfully to cash your first million-dollar check in a drive-thru ATM?"

Laughing, Williams responded, "Those are all true...I got my check, and it was a million dollars. Like okay, 'I'm going to go deposit it."

"So, I went through the drive-thru to deposit a million dollars. The guy was like, 'I think you need to come inside for this.' And I was like, 'Uh. OK.' Lessons to learn."

"I never played for money. I played 'cause I love the sport... I wanted to win. I [didn't] even know at the time if I wanted to be the best. I just wanted to win."

She also recalled that her tax guy even had to remind her to get her winnings repeatedly.

"So my tax guy, he would be like, 'You didn't get your money.' I'm like, 'Oh, I didn't get that one in Zurich. Oh, I forgot that one in Moscow,'" she recalled.
