Barack Obama released an open letter just hours after President Joe Biden announced he will not run in the 2024 presidential election.

"While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and for the country for me to stand down and focus soley on fulfilling my duties as president for the remiander of my term," 81-year-old Biden announced on Sunday.

He concluded: "There is nothing American can't do — when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America."

The 44th president weighed in on the bombshell announcement, citing Biden's patriotism, empathy, and resilience as he looks forward to the upcoming Democratic Convention.

"Joe Biden has been one of America's most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we've also been reminded  —  again  —  that he's a patriot of the highest order," Obama, 62, wrote in a statement per 'Medium.' "Sixteen years ago, when I began my search for a vice president, I knew about Joe's remarkable career in public service. But what I came to admire even more was his character  —  his deep empathy and hard-earned resilience; his fundamental decency and belief that everyone counts."

He continued: "I believe that Joe Biden's vision of a generous, prosperous, and united America that provides opportunity for everyone will be on full display at the Democratic Convention in August. And I expect that every single one of us are prepared to carry that message of hope and progress forward into November and beyond."

Obama — who attended Team USA's Olympic Basketball team as "Hooper-In-Chief" — expressed his love and gratitude for the current president, who he claims led the nation "ably and courageously during these perilous times."

His letter praised Biden, but did not include an endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris — but according to a source close to the former president, there's no heat behind it. According to 'The New York Times,' endorsing too early — should she be elected — could seem like a "coronation" to the public, rather than the best possible consensus.

Per a White House official, who communicates with 44 regularly, he prioritized the celebration of his accomplishments, and "does not feel pressured" to act "hastily."
