Lisa Kudrow Clarifies Remarks She 'Hated' The 'Friends' Live Studio Audience Because They Were 'Laughing Too Long'
Turns out a live studio audience is not always fun and games for everyone.
'Friends,' one of the most popular sitcoms of all time, was iconically filmed in front of a live studio audience.
According to 'TMZ,' 'Friends' star Lisa Kudrow faced many frustrations while filming. During the most recent episode of Conan O'Brien's podcast 'Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend,' the actress shared her feelings about the recurrent set-up.
She explained that her frustration was not with the fans themselves but often what their laughter would do to the timing of different jokes. Kudrow, who played Phoebe, explained that due to the excitement of being in the room, audiences would often laugh at a joke for far longer than warranted.

"It's like now you're just ruining the timing of the rest of the show. Sometimes I would just look out if they'd been laughing too long, and go, 'Come on.' Really angry," she recalled.
The 60-year-old's comments came on the heels of her co-star Jennifer Aniston who made similar remarks. Aniston, 55, remarked during a round table interview with 'Variety' that the Phoebe actress "hated, by the way, when the audience laughed. She'd be like, 'Uh, are you still... I'm not done! It's not that funny.' "
The performer's recent remarks in interviews have been to clarify to the public that she by no means "hated" the live studio audience's reactions. She was decidedly "irritated" by them.

No matter how irritating the audience may have been, she still looks back on her time on the show fondly. She shared that she is watching the show back without any embarrassment as a tribute to her late friend and co-star Matthew Perry.
Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. He was 54.
