Prince William And Kate Middleton Encounter 'Awkward Situation' With Harry's Return To The UK: Royal Expert
The Prince and Princess of Wales may face an awkward scenario following Prince Harry's latest announcement.
The Duke of Sussex revealed that the 2027 Invictus Games will take place in Birmingham, marking the first time the event has been held in the UK since the inaugural games in London in 2014.
While Harry's return to the UK is significant, it also raises questions about whether Prince William, 42, and Princess Kate will participate, and if Harry will receive support from his father, King Charles.
Royal correspondent Dorothy Reddin recently reported that the initial Invictus Games were hosted at an athletic facility in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with then-Prince Charles and Prince William in attendance.
However, since Harry's departure from royal duties in 2020, he has managed the Invictus Games independently from the royal family, and no senior royals have been present at the events since then.
With the Invictus Games returning to Harry's home country, all eyes will be on whether William and Kate, 42, will attend and offer an olive branch. Columnist Dorothy Reddin noted that the royal family will likely have to consider the public perception of a major event in the UK without any visible support from Harry's immediate family, potentially placing the Wales' in an uncomfortable position.
Reddin suggested that William and Kate might be seen as "cold" if they choose not to attend, but she also acknowledged the significant tensions between the couples, which might justify their absence from the event.
The relationship between William and Harry reportedly remains strained. When Harry visited London for an Invictus event in May, neither his father nor his brother met with him, despite Harry's advance notice.
