The relationship between Zendaya and Sam Levinson appears to be strained amid his pivot to a new HBO series.

According to 'The Hollywood Reporter,' Zendaya is "frustrated" with the writer and director after he reportedly neglected his duties in favor of a new music-industry focused drama called 'The Idol' — which is set to launch musician The Weeknd's acting career.

'THR' dished details on what's "ailing" the highly-anticipated 3rd season, and the friction between the lead star and Levinson.

Zendaya was reportedly quite close with Levinson, as the media outlet detailed their frequent hang outs at his house. However, an insider claimed that as Zendaya pulled away, he began to resent her.

After deliberation as to whether HBO's hit series 'Euphoria' would even make it to a third season, the network announced the green light, confirming on July 12 that regular cast members had signed on to start filming in January.

As Levinson spent more time than expected on 'The Idol,' starring Lilly Depp, Zendaya — who plays the lead role of Rue Bennett — allegedly grew frustrated. More than two years after the second season, Levinson had yet to deliver scripts for the new season.

Sources claim the 27-year-old actress was so "perturbed" that she asked for a meeting with HBO's EVP Francesca Orsi and Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys to ask why Levinson was allowed to turn his attention to another show, leaving 'Euphoria' to hang in the balance.

Levinson's wife, Ashley Lent Levinson, who stepped in as the appointed executive producer, reportedly created new tension. Sources close to the 'Euphoria' team describe her approach on set as "more sharp-elbowed than conciliatory" and "protective" over her husband.

"Sam really is a big talent, but he needs managing, and if you're a spouse, it's tough. He needs boundaries, he needs deadlines. It's hard for a spouse to set limits. You're setting yourself up for failure," an insider asserted, per the media outlet.

While the Golden Globe-winning actress has voiced her concern, sources claim Levinson also blamed the 'Dune' superstar for shifting her attention to other projects as well. "It was all about her. Everybody wanted to make it about Sam, but it was her," an additional source claimed.

'PEOPLE' reported that the third season of the cult-favorite HBO series won't be released till 2025.
