Tory Lanez’s Driver Jauquan Smith Claims Kelsey Harris May Have Caused Megan Thee Stallion Shooting
Tory Lanez's driver — and friend of many years — issued his statement regarding the controversial shooting between him and Megan Thee Stallion which landed him behind bars for a decade.
Jauquan Smith witnessed the 2020 shooting first hand and told a version of the story which the court did not hear, as it was reported that Lanez's legal team did not call Smith as a witness at that time.
The documents which details Smith's account were submitted as part of the rapper's appeal for his 10-year-prison sentence. It was reported the California court saw "good reason" to reconsider the Canadian's request for "relevant evidence."
The released statement details his perspective as a driver on the night of the altercation, which names Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, Kelsey Harris, and Megan Pete — known as Megan Thee Stallion.
Smith claims that a disagreement ensued in the car between Pete and Peterson, 32, noting that Pete appeared to be "bickering" but was unsure of what she was saying. As the car ride continued, Pete began fighting with Peterson. When Harris asked, "What's going on?" Peterson admitted that he and Pete had been "dating and intimate."
When Harris became upset, Smith pulled the car over to address the uproar. Both Pete, 29, and Harris exited the vehicle, leading to a heated physical struggle. No. 14 of the Affidavit stated: "I saw Ms. Harris with a gun in her hand." Per his account, Lanez ran from behind Pete and toward Harris, who began to struggle "as Mr. Peterson tried to unarm Ms. Harris."

The driver — who has known the "Say It" rapper for seven years and was hired as his driver for three — claimed he was "still pulling Ms. Pete and did not see who shot the weapon" in the midst of the tussle.
In December 2022, Harris reportedly refused to refer to anything that night as a shooting, but only that she heard gunshots, per 'ABC 7 Los Angeles'. When prosecutors questioned whether the rapper shot the Houston rapper, she allegedly pleaded the 5th amendment, saying the stand was too "triggering."
Meanwhile, Tory Lanez is managing to stay positive while behind bars. He released his 'Free Tory' playlist Friday, which he plans to update weekly.
"Not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It's crazy!" the Canada native exclaimed, urging fans that he'd be "home soon."
