Maya Rudolph Set To Play Kamala Harris On ‘Saturday Night Live’ Through Controversial 2024 Presidential Election
Maya Rudolph is putting her VP hat back on as she reprises her fan-favorite role as Kamala Harris on NBC's hit show 'Saturday Night Live.'
The 'SNL' star's impersonation is so widely popular that fans have been urging her to bring her comedy back to the New York-based show, and they've delivered, per 'Deadline.'
This fall, the classic late-night comedy sketch show will cover the remainder of the controversial 2024 presidential election, which means the comedian is once again stepping into her "Momala" era — a nickname given to the vice president during a viral episode of 'The Drew Barrymore Show.'
Rudolph first played the Democratic candidate in a comedy skit back in December 2019, earning her an Emmy for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. That said — it was only a few lines in a debate-style comedy skit — and the people said encore.
Alongside Jim Carrey's comical Joe Biden skit, Rudolph brought Harris back throughout the 2020 election cycle, coining the term "Funt" — short for America's Fun Aunt, earning her an additional Emmy for her Harris role in March 2021.

Rudolph spoke on what it was like to develop the award-winning portrayal of "laughing" Kamala Harris, saying she didn't initially have an "impression" because she wasn't "walking around the house doing my 'Kamala.' "
"There's nothing crazily overt about Sen. Harris, but I have to tell you, when I got to [SNL] and they put the wig on me, it was done," the 52-year-old explained per 'Deadline' back in September 2020.
The highly-anticipated 50th season of 'Saturday Night Live' is set to premiere on September 28.
