'Avengers: Age of Ultron' What Joss Whedon Has Leaked So Far
Following July's San Diego Comic-Con, rumors abound about Marvels Phase Two capstone Avengers sequel.
So what do we really know about the Joss Whedon film?
Title
Announced at Comic-Con, the title of the 2015 film will be The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marketed as the next step in the Avengers development as a group, it appears the superhero collective will assemble again to take down the robotic monster.
However, the movie will not follow the plot of the recently released Age of Ultron comic book series from Brian Michael Bendis.
"Because there was a book called Age of Ultron quite recently, a lot of people have assumed that is what we're doing, but that is not the case," Whedon said in a Marvel interview. "We're doing our own version of the origin story for Ultron."
The Villain
Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man, will NOT create Ultron. The Ant-Man character won't be introduced until Edgar Wright's Phase Three film.
Instead, it appears that Ulton will actually be an Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) project gone wrong, as evidenced by the Comic-Con reveal footage that shows a contorted Iron Man helmet as Ultron's face.
New Characters
Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch will be teaming up with the Avengers. However, the mutant parentage of the siblings will not be discussed as that part of the story is relegated to the X-Men franchise.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick Ass 2) is currently the frontrunner to play Quicksilver.
There is also speculation that Vin Diesel may appear as Vision, based on a recent tweet from the actor following a meeting with Marvel as well as the characters involvement with Ultron.
Who Is Not Appearing
There will be no Loki, sorry folks. It looks like the Asgardian trickster will be sidelined for this installment. However, Tom Hiddleston will appear in the upcoming Thor: The Dark World and there is a chance he will show up in a Phase Three film.
"I think keeping it fresh and new is good for The Avengers, even though it's a shame for me," the British actor told RTÉ. "And let's face it, there's seven or eight of them as it is, and Joss is thinking about adding two more, so the screen's gonna be a busy place."
Although Thanos was largely suspected to be the big band of the sequel, Whedon has stated that this is not true.
