Orlando Cruz: Gay Boxer Facebook Proposal to Jose Manuel PHOTO & VIDEO, Partner Accepts (Watch)
Openly gay box Orlando Cruz proposed to his partner Wednesday on Facebook.
The Associated Press reported on Thursday that Cruz--who came out as being gay last October--posted a short video on his official page on Aug. 14. The professional boxer asked his partner Jose Manuel for his hand in marriage in Spanish, his native language.
"Through the ups and downs we've had, you've always been there for [me]," the featherweight fighter reportedly said. "I'm a little bit nervous, but that aside, I want to tell you and share with your friends and my friends that if you want to marry me?
"I want to share my life with you and want to be with you always, and support you 100 percent, and you support me 100 percent. I like you a lot, I love you and I look forward to your answer."
Manuel replied with his own response video on Facebook, according to reports.
"I want to tell you, yes, I do accept and would like to marry you, because I love you," Manuel said with tears streaming down his face. "I'm a bit emotional. I didn't expect to find your proposal posted to Facebook."
Both videos have since been removed from the website.
Cruz followed up to the Facebook videos with a statement on Twitter. He wrote that he and Manuel have decided to take an important step in their lives. He also wrote that he wants happiness for him and his partner.
Cruz is the first professional boxer to come out while still competing. He is a featherweight fighter and 20-2-1 with 10 knockouts and will compete against boxer Orlando Salido for the WBO featherweight title in Las Vegas on Oct. 12.
