New Jersey Congressman Posts Fake Spotify Wrapped Results with Nothing but Springsteen, Accused of Pandering to Garden State Voters
A New Jersey congressman is under scrutiny after sharing fake Spotify Wrapped results showing his top songs as Bruce Springsteen hits, leading to accusations of pandering to Garden State voters.
On December 6, 2024, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), running for governor, posted a Spotify Wrapped summary showcasing Bruce Springsteen as his top artist and songs, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
However, discrepancies in the formatting of the post led to claims it was fabricated. Gottheimer admitted to altering the results, explaining that he shares his account with his children, but maintained his love for Springsteen.
Gottheimer's fake Spotify Wrapped became a political controversy, with some accusing him of attempting to appear more authentically "Jersey" ahead of his gubernatorial run.
While Gottheimer acknowledged the fake post, he shared his actual Spotify Wrapped, confirming Springsteen was indeed his top artist, but other tracks like Billy Joel, Drake, and Travis Scott were also featured.
The congressman is currently attempting to move on by emphasizing his real Springsteen fandom and redirecting focus to his policy platform, including issues like taxes and cost of living.
