MTV VMAs 10 Most Shocking Moments, PHOTOS: Britney Spears, Beyonce, Kanye West & More
It's been almost three decades since the first MTV Video Music Awards show premiered in 1984, yet celebrities never cease to shock the audience.
With the 29th annual award show approaching, EnStars compiled a list of some of the most shocking VMA moments to date.
1) In 1991, comedian Paul Reubens - known as Pee-Wee Herman - made his first public appearance at the VMAs after his arrest for indecent exposure. His opening line was, "Heard any good jokes lately?"
2) Three years later Michael Jackson planted an uncomfortable kiss on wife Lisa Marie Presley. "Just think, nobody thought this would last," he said. The couple divorced in 1996.
3) When Diana Ross presented an award with Lil' Kim in 1999, the singer decided to lean over and touch the rapper's exposed breast.
4) During Britney Spears' performance of I'm A Slave 4 U in 2001, the pop star danced with a large python around her neck. She held one of the world's largest snakes during her stage performance.
5) Britney Spears and Madonna shared a kiss during the 2003 award show as they performed Like A Virgin along with Christina Aguilera. The incident received major publicity.
6) In 2007, Britney Spears hit the VMA stage and gave a disappointing performance of her single Gimme More. The singer seemed unprepared and unsure of the dance routine. While it was meant to be Spears' comeback performance, it was bashed tremendously.
7) Lady Gaga shocked the audience when she performed Paparazzi in 2009 and covered herself in blood.
8) As Taylor Swift was in the process of accepting her award for best female video at the 2009 award show, Kanye West jumped on stage to express his dissatisfaction. "Imma let you finish," he told her. "But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time."
9) Beyonce let the whole world know she was pregnant during her performance of Love On Top in 2011. At the end of the song, the singer opened the button of her jacket and rubbed her baby bump.
10) In 2011, Lady Gaga shocked the world again when she stepped out at the VMAs as Jo Calderone, her alter male ego.
