The Latino filmmaker Jeff Baena died at 47 years old in Los Angeles. Local police confirmed his death after responding to a call from the home the artist shared with his wife, actress Aubrey Plaza.
The celebrity news website TMZ first reported the news, citing police sources. According to the report, firefighters arrived after receiving a call from Baena's assistant around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 3. The filmmaker was declared dead at the scene. The unofficial cause of death is suicide.
So far, no family members have made public statements about the tragic news that casts a shadow over the start of the new year.
Jeff Baena's Career
The artist was born and raised in Miami and showed an early passion for filmmaking. After graduating, he attended New York University's film school and moved to Los Angeles to begin his career.
Among his most notable works is the 2004 indie black comedy 'I Heart Huckabees,' starring Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law, and Naomi Watts.
Later, he directed and wrote 'Life After Beth,' a zombie comedy that gained popularity and mixed reviews.
He also directed acclaimed films such as 'The Little Hours,' starring Brie and Dave Franco, and 'Horse Girl,' led by Brie and Molly Shannon.
Personal Life
Baena shared more than 12 years of his life with Plaza in a strong relationship.
The world discovered their marriage in May 2021 when the actress called him her "dear husband" in an Instagram post. It was later revealed that they married in a "quick ceremony" in 2020.
