Karla Sofía Gascón Reveals Selena Gomez's Reaction to Tweet Calling Her a 'Rich Rat'
Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón has sparked controversy once again by giving an interview to CNN without Netflix's approval. In the conversation, the 'Emilia Pérez' star addressed the controversial publications on social media that are jeopardizing her Oscar nomination and shared details about her relationship with Selena Gomez.
Her mea culpa
Gascón gave an exclusive interview to journalist Juan Carlos Arciniegas at CNN en Español. She appeared on camera without makeup ready to discuss the controversy surrounding her—despite lacking Netflix's authorization and often interrupting the interviewer.
"This is an interview, and I have questions for you," Arciniegas remarked, trying to steer the conversation as Gascón vented.
During the interview Gascón admitted that her past posts on X, where she criticized diversity at the Oscars and commented on George Floyd, were "an unacceptable lack of respect."
"It pains me to have hurt communities, like the trans community, who fight for visibility," she stated. Although she deactivated her account, she insisted that circulating screenshots "don't show the full context."
Addressing her Oscar nomination, Gascón firmly stated: "I cannot renounce a nomination recognizing my acting talent. I haven't committed any crime or harmed anyone."
The Academy has yet to release an official statement regarding the controversy. However, award strategists warn that it may sway voters toward other nominees, such as Fernanda Torres, Demi Moore, or Mikey Madison.
Selena Gomez's quiet support
The interview also touched on Selena Gomez's stance on publications allegedly targeting her. Gascón said that once the posts surfaced she sent the news to Gomez, seeking to clarifying the matter: "Hey, just so you know, this isn't mine."

She also insisted that the viral publications about Gomez were completely fabricated.
Netflix under fire
Netflix, which invested over $30 million in 'Emilia Pérez''s awards campaign, is now facing criticism for failing to vet Gascón's digital history before the nomination.
