Pandora to Remove 40 Hour Listening Cap In September, Must Compete With Apple iTunes Radio VIDEO
Mobile Pandora listeners will soon be able to hear as many tunes as they can possibly take.
Pandora will be reversing their monthly mobile listening limit for free users starting next month.
"Pandora plans to eliminate the blanket 40-hour-per-month limit on free mobile listening effective September 1st," said CFO Mike Herring, according to Engadget.
Back in February, the company instituted a monthly cap on free mobile listening. With only 40 hours allotted to each user, the original plan was put in place to help raise revenue in order to pay rising royalty costs.
"In the 6 months since we first implemented the free mobile listening limitation, we have gained critical insights into our user population that has given us greater control of our business," Herring continued, according to Engadget. "Pandora has implemented both other surgical levers to control content cost and new features that will allow for greater product usage."
Herring didn't hint at what these new features would be or if the skip limit would be changed as one of these other "surgical levers."
The news comes not long after Apple announced that it's upcoming service, iTunes Radio, will feature audio ads every 15 minutes and a video add every hour for users enjoying the free mode, according to Engadget.
Other competitors of Pandora include Spotify and Grooveshark.
