Days before the show aired, MTV announced that Timberlake would deliver a "not-to-miss epic performance," during Sunday's broadcast. It was widely speculated that there will be an *NSYNC reunion on stage.

But as quickly as NSYNC appeared, they were gone -- and Timberlake was back to singing his solo hit songs including Suit and Tie and Mirrors.

Timberlake was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards. The Take Back The Night singer was presented the award by late night host Jimmy Fallon.

The award served as a commendation for his role in such video excellence as "Mirrors," "Sexy Back," and "Tunnel Vision."

The award honors artistry and innovation in music videos. Previous recipients include the eponymous Jackson himself, Madonna, Britney Spears, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and others.

As a solo artist and member of *NSYNC, Timberlake has taken home 14 Moonmen, placing him second all-time only to Madonna.

Timberlake performed a medley of songs including Take Back the Night, Sexy Back, Like I Love You, My Love, Cry Me a River, Senorita, Rock Your Body, Pusher Love Girl, Suit and Tie, and Mirrors.
