One Direction, Video Music Awards 2013 Best Song Of The Summer Winner for 'Best Song Ever' [VIDEO]
One Direction received the most votes for their tune Best Song Ever at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. With over 8 million votes, the song helped the band win the award for Best Song Of The Summer.
The band was up against Miley Cyrus' We Can't Stop, Selena Gomez's Come & Get It, Calvin Harris' I Need Your Love featuring Ellie Goulding, Daft Punk's Get Lucky and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines featuring T.I. and Pharrell.
Most Shocking VMA Moments Ever
The tune is the lead single off the group's documentary This Is Us, which hits theaters on Aug. 30. The movie shows the band's rise to fame after they appeared on U.K.'s X Factor in 2010.
One Direction showed off their acting skills when they released the song's video in July. In the clip, band members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson act as snobbish Hollywood executives while Zayn Malik plays a female assistant. Harry Styles is a marketer and Liam Payne is a choreographer named Leeroy.
"It's not trying to make them anything they're not," the video's director Ben Winston told MTV. "And that's what's incredible about One Direction, I think, is that they are a boy band that break all the rules and always do what they want to do."
