Will Smith Reaction at VMAs: The Smiths Weren't Grimacing at Miley Cyrus' Performance, It was Lady Gaga! [VIDEO]
The Smiths' reaction went viral on the Internet today, as being symptomatic of how bad Miley Cyrus' performance at the VMAs was, but in that screenshot, Will Smith and his family were actually dumbfounded by Lady Gaga's performance.
As soon as Will Smith and his family's reaction was tweeted about and people were quick to assume that they were disturbed by Cyrus' performance with Robin Thicke on Blurred Lines.
The news got picked up by major publications and started to become fact for a brief while.
While the picture did seem to tap into how most were feeling about Cyrus' performance it was completely taken out of context. Slate revealed that that was the family's reaction to Lady Gaga's performance, citing the small pop-up box at the bottom left of the MTV All Access frame, showing us what's going on on stage. The press made a mistake of taking Twitter as being a reliable source.
Cyrus has received some legitimate criticism from fellow artists. Rihanna's death stare was definitely a reaction to the performance. Kelly Clarkson went on Twitter to express her disdain with a brutal tweet: "Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words.... #pitchystrippers"
Cyrus performed her most recent single, 'We Can't Stop,' and went on to perform with Robin Thicke on Blurred Lines, stripping down to a flesh colored bikini.
In other recent news surrounding this fracas, the Parents Television Counsil has issued a complaint against the VMAs. Cyrus' dad is on the advisory board.
Gaga opened the VMAs with a live debut of her hit single Applause.
