Lady Gaga Azealia Banks Feud Over MTV VMA Video Music Awards 2013 'Applause' Performance Mermaid Outfit
Azealia Banks started a Twitter feud with Lady Gaga over the Applause singer's MTV Video Music Awards mermaid-inspired outfit.
The Harlem rapper began the rift by throwing a jab at "Mother Monster" after she asked her fans to wear seashells and starfish to her upcoming London concert on Twitter. Gaga first wore a clam and seashells bikini during her opening performance at the Video Music Awards on Sunday.
"I will be providing a list of acceptable attire for #SwineFest throughout the week. Item 1: Seashells. Item 2: Seahorses 3: Starfish," Gaga wrote on Aug. 28.
Banks replied with the following comment on her Twitter account: "@ladygaga hmmmm sounds a lot like Azealia Banks' mermaid balls."
That rapper followed up her first tweet with another where she named Gaga to ensure she would be clear who she referred to.
She also wrote, "Of COURSE gaga wants to play mermaid again..... Pffft. Not picking a fight. Just all looks soo familiar.... To me" and concluded with, "It's just...Late."
Gaga replied with a tweet without a statement. She reportedly posted a gif of the Disney character Ariel from The Mermaid crying and swimming away under water. That tweet has since been deleted.
Gaga and Banks were once friends-- they reportedly collaborated on two songs in 2012 but the tracks were never released.
Azealia Banks has a long list of recording artists that she written Twitter rants and has feuds with on the social media site. View the list of screengrabs of Banks' Twitter beefs with a number of celebrities including Nicki Minaj, Lil' Kim, T.I. and Iggy Azalea here.
Banks' last Twitter feud was with British singer Lily Allen. On July 13 she tweeted an unflattering picture of Allen sunbathing topless in the nude with the comment, "Ugh b--ch bye."
