Macklemore Gay Rumors: MTV VMA Video Music Awards 2013 Winner Denies Claim [VIDEO]
Following their big night at the 2013 MTV VMA, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis appeared on Chelsea Lately, where the duo cleared up some rumors about their sexuality.
"You’re both straight, right?" asked host Chelsea Handler, referencing some widespread Internet misconceptions.
Macklemore explained that if you type "Is…" into Google, one of the top auto-fills is "Is Macklemore Gay?"
"The Internet thinks that I’m gay," said the rapper. "It's not true." (Watch their appearance below.)
The group took home several awards at the MTV Video Music Awards 2013 on Sunday night, including Best Video With A Social Message for Same Love.
"They let some independent hip-hop artists up here at the VMAs," Macklemore told the crowd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. "The fact that we're up here with a Moonman is insane."
The song is an anthem that speaks to LGBT rights and was up against other socially minded videos including Beyonce's I Was Here, Kelly Clarkson's People Like Us, Miguel's Candles in the Sun and Snoop Dogg's No Guns Allowed.
Macklemore said that Same Love's win was a "testamtent to what is happening right now in America on the forefront of equality."
"Gay rights are human rights, there is no separation," he continued.
"This means a lot," Lewis added.
