John Mayer reportedly proposed to fellow singer Katy Perry, but she didn't quite give him the answer he was looking for.

Perry allegedly turned him down, according to a source, via Grazia magazine. The Roar singer reportedly "doesn't feel ready" for another marriage commitment. In 2010, the singer was married to comedian Russell Brand for 14 months before divorcing him.

"John won't run from Katy again. He knows his bad-boy reputation and what happened with Russell hurt Katy, and he'll do whatever it takes to show he's the one she should marry," the source said. "John's proposal really unnerved Katy. Even though they have discussed it, she thought it was too soon. John was gutted."

Despite Perry's rejection, Mayer's marriage proposal did not greatly affect their relationship. They will continue to work on their relationship and that Perry needs more time before deciding to walk down the altar again.

"Katy loves John but doesn't feel she has had enough healing time since her divorce. She told him she just needed a bit more time to feel whole in herself again," the source said.

Mayer and Perry sang a duet together on Mayer's latest album, Paradise Valley. Titled Who You Love, the song is about two people who have fallen in love with each other even though they weren't expecting to.

Perry is getting ready to release her third studio album, Prism, on Oct. 22. The album features her hit single Roar, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also performed the track at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25. Watch her performance here.
