However, now that Robert Downey Jr. is booked to reprise his role as the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist in the upcoming Avengers sequel, there is a possibility of a continuity issue between the two films.

Without an arc reactor or any of his prior suits, how will Iron Man fit into the new Joss Whedon outing?
"We take his arc reactor out, but I think we also make a pretty definite statement that he is Iron Man," said Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce, as reported by SciFi Now according to Comic Book Movie. "And although Joss isn't part of the process as such, he saw all the cuts of the movie, so I've got to assume he knows exactly what he wants to do with Tony in [The Avengers: Age of Ultron] and how we've left him is going to help that, not hinder it."
'Avengers: Age of Ultron' What Joss Whedon Has Leaked So Far
A recent casting announcement for Age of Ultron revealed that Stark would have a definite presence in the film, although it may not be one the character wants. While Comic-Con footage confirmed Ultron's resemblance to Iron Man, a casting call posted by Feature Film Casting confirmed that Stark will be the villains unwitting creator.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron is due out in 2015.
