Fans of Gwyneth Paltrow may not get to see the Iron Man 3 star in the upcoming Avengers sequel.

While Paltrow's Pepper Potts has worked alongside Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in the last three Iron Man films as well as last year's Avengers outing, the actress claims she has not received a call asking her back for Age of Ultron.

"I don't think so, no one has asked me," Paltrow said, according to Hit Fix. "Well, no, I don't think so. I haven't heard anything. My phone has not rung for Avengers 2."

Could this spell the end of Paltrow's involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Joss Whedon Reveals Ultron's New Design for Avengers 2

After the release of Iron Man 3, during which Potts had the chance to spend a little time inside the famous armor, the 40-year-old actress revealed that she wouldn't be adverse to the character receiving her own spinoff.

"The nice thing is that everybody's sort of been very sweet about Pepper in this movie, like all the journalists who came in," Paltrow said at the time, according to Perez Hilton. "They were like, 'Oh my god, you have to have your own movie,' because in the comics, Pepper gets her own suit, and she becomes a character called Rescue. They're like, 'We need a Rescue movie,' and I'm like, 'Okay, well, I'd better hit the gym."

Iron Man 3 Ending Will Connect With Avengers: Age of Ultron

Even if a Rescue film never develops, Avengers 3 is always on the horizon, as is a possible fourth Iron Man.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will begin filming early next year and is set for a 2015 release.
