Sofia Vergara Is a Boast for Chris Christie
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said yesterday that he was not bothered by Jimmy Kimmel's "fat jokes" about him at the White House Correspondent's Dinner on Saturday because actress Sofia Vergara was sitting next to him.
During the annual WHCD in Washington D.C. this weekend, Christie was one among many who were targeted by Kimmel. However, when asked about the jokes, he told reporters yesterday: "When you have her next to you to console you, let me tell you, you don't care what the heck Jimmy Kimmel is saying about you," referring to him sitting next to Vergara.
Kimmel first spoke about Michelle Obama's anti-obesity initiative, before saying: "Look, it's Chris Christie. Get him." He then said: "You know, they say that inside every American governor there's a president struggling to get out. In Chris Christie's case, it's the only one where you can still hear him screaming."
Christie took the jokes lightly and said: "I have no problem, as you know, laughing at myself. When you're overweight, fair or unfair, there's going to be those who make really awful comments about you and there are going to be people who make jokes about it. That's the way it goes."
Kimmel and President Barack Obama also teased Kim Kardsashian at the WHCD. When referring to the killing of Osama Bin Laden in 2011, Kimmel, joked: "If you're looking for the greatest threat to America right now, she's right there," Kimmel said pointing at Kardashian in the audience. "She's Kim Kardashian."
Then Kimmel turned to Obama and said: "When you took office, the Kardashians had one reality show. Now they have four. This is not a good trend," he told Obama.
Obama also joked about Kardashian, saying: "I'm the President of the United States, and I'm opening for Jimmy Kimmel? Why am I telling knock-knock jokes to Kim Kardashian? What is she famous for, anyway?"
In response to Obama's teasing, Kim tweeted: "Pretty funny speech I must admit."
