Kerry Washington Tops People Magazine's Best Dressed 2013: Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana, Nicole Richie on Top 10 List (PHOTOS)
Kerry Washington was named People magazine's Best Dressed Woman of 2013.
The Scandal actress landed the nod because she consistently hit a home run with her fashion choices at many high-profile events this year. During her press tour for Django Unchained, the Oscars, the Golden Globes, Met Gala, CFDA Awards and other events she was praised for wearing a wide variety of high-end gowns.
She also topped Vanity Fair's Best Dressed List and appeared on the cover of the August 2013 issue because of the honor.
Washington told People how she chooses what to wear on the red carpet.
"For me, the goal is to feel comfortable, event- appropriate and to be an elevated, more special version of myself or to feel like the best version of myself in that context and just be in the moment," Washington told People.
"I like to find balance in an outfit where it doesn't feel too much of any one thing," she explained. "It's not dressing like a nun and it's also not dressing like I'm in a swimsuit competition. It's finding the middle ground."
She also gave credit to Erin Walsh, her fashion stylist of two years.
"Erin and I really work hand in hand," Washington explained. "We're always sending each other ideas and pictures."
