Sofia Vergara Defends Colombia After U.S. Secret Service Prostitution Scandal
Colombia-born Sofia Vergara has defended her native country which has come under the spotlight after U.S. Secret Service agents made international headlines for hiring prostitutes in Cartagena. The scandal, which overshadowed Obama's visit to the country, resulted in agents being fired and has harmed the reputation of Colombia.
Vergara told the Spanish version of the Huffington Post: "Never, never in my life have I heard or read about anyone going to Colombia specifically to look for easy women, and one scandal isn't going to change that. The press loves to create controversy and to generalize the news and I wasn't ready for that. From this Secret Service incident no one can damage the image of our women. (...) The good image of Colombia is very strong internationally and has many powerful ambassadors."
Vergara has caused quite a media-stir this week when a photo spread on the Mexican GQ exposed her breast and nipples in a sheer top. In the provocative spread, the actress, almost 40, looks super sexy as she displays her assets.
"My career is because of my look and I am not ashamed of it," Vergara told GQ. "My look has opened so many doors. But I also know that if I had something else, my career would have ended long ago. That's why I see Sophia Loren as the perfect example of beauty, sex appeal and how the one presented in public."
The Columbian-born actress currently stars in "Modern Family" as "Gloria".
Yesterday, New Jersey governor Chris Christie spoke of how Vergara consoled him in light of fat jokes directed at him by Jimmy Kimmel at the White House Correspondent's Dinner. Christie said: "When you have her next to you to console you, let me tell you, you don't care what the heck Jimmy Kimmel is saying about you," referring to Vergara.
